CONGRATULATIONS COLLEEN FAHEY!! 1st PLACE in the 2013 Reebok CrossFit Games Women’s Masters Division 50 – 54! Colleen is a former FSU Rugby Coach & Player – Go Florida Women’s Rugby! (she also played for the women’s national team!)

The USA Rugby AIG Women’s Junior All-Americans suffered a heartbreaking defeat in the Final of the U20 Nations Cup Sunday, falling to a powerful Canadian side 27-3. Both teams came into the Final after comprehensive victories over South Africa and England, in which Browne started at wing, and the expected intensity and physicality certainly lived up to its billing. Browne played the first 68 of the 80 minute final match.
A former “hardcore rugby player” at Florida State University, Colleen Fahey went on to play for the U.S. National team, competing in the first ever Women’s World Cup in 1991, which the U.S. won.Competing in all three Open events, Fahey says she thinks her rugby background has helped her as a competitive CrossFitter. “Rugby instilled in me the ability to push past my comfort zone in training and reach for a goal,” she says. “For years, I was used to following a plan to get results and reacting to weaknesses that came up.”

The Florida Rugby Union will host a Serevi Coaching Clinic September 14 in the Orlando area. This is an excellent opportunity for coaches to keep current in the USAR coaching accreditation system since coaching education credits will be given to attendees. The clinic will be paired with player’s clinics on Saturday and Sunday. More details will be available as the course gets planned. The clinic is not a USAR certification clinic but is a chance to keep current certifications current and for coaching development.
At the February meeting of the FRU, we voted to apply to USA Rugby (USAR) for GU consideration and are looking to follow that up with membership approval (see below). We are waiting approval of the application from USAR. The FRU executive committee has reviewed the by-laws and would like to ask clubs to electronically approve the GU formation and GU by-laws prior to our meeting on July 21. The main reason is that both the existing by-laws and new by-laws require amendments to be distributed to the membership prior to the meeting. If we approve the by-laws prior to the meeting, then we will have adequate time to provide notice of suggested changes from the membership. The meeting on July 21 would then serve to amend the by-laws, approve the budget, and elect GU officers. We could not vote to form the FRU GU at the last meeting as the by-laws had not been drafted with the USAR template.
